Opportunities to establish bases for the production of fish feed on the basis of domestic enterprises operating in the Vologda region were discussed within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

As noted by experts, despite the desire of agro-industrial complex enterprises to develop fish-breeding projects, the main problem remains the insufficient amount of quality feed. Most often, the basis of the nutrient base is imported products, so aquafare is highly dependent on the logistics of supplies and fluctuations in the rate.

The Russian Academy of Sciences is ready to help solve the strategic issue not only for the aquaculture of Vologda region, but for the entire Russian fish industry, the Russian Academy of Sciences is ready to provide, the press service of the regional government informs. The solution of fish farming problems is one of the central issues of the Agreement signed by the Governor of the region and the RAS earlier.

"Russian academic and industry institutions have gained considerable experience to solve the most complex industry problems of fish farming, including the production of quality domestic feed for various species of fish. For 10 years, studies have been conducted to find an alternative to fishmeal, the main component for the production of fish feed, and to date 40 types of raw materials that can replace it are known, - said President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeyev. "Given that science is the basis of fisheries activities, the research carried out can and should be used to create several experimental fish feed productions in the Vologda region."

Vologodchina in the last few years demonstrates the active growth of enterprises engaged in the production of commercial fish. The main task is to make up the shortage of consumption of fish products by the locals, and at the expense of their own resources.

"Over the past six years, the volume of our farms has grown almost tenfold. The regional government is stepping up its efforts to support the aquaculture industry. As part of the new program, the region offers business subsidies for feed, breeding fish farming, interest on loans, production of commercial food products, purchase of equipment and equipment, - said Deputy Governor Vitaly Tushinov. "We have serious prospects for the creation of experimental fish feed productions. Including at the expense of our dairy industry."
